The first summer without them is devastating.

The second is lonely in a different way.

Wherever you are you don't have do it alone.

INTRODUCING

The Summer Letter Exchange

A one-off letter exchange for anyone and everyone grieving.

You have a memory to share

A person you want to write about.

Someone that shouldn't be forgotten.

I know Letters After Loss isn't available for everyone.

I've read the comments - "it's just for widows", "I wish there was something for me", "I'm a widower".

Writing is a place where you get to share your stories.

There is something beautiful in a handwritten letter, the 1:1 connection. The realisation that you are not alone.

People grieving are the only ones who really get it and understand.

So here's my idea for anyone who wants to share their story, wants that connection, and wants to receive lovely post through the door.

A letter exchange for everyone and anyone grieving.

(that's not just for widows)

What the Summer Letter Exchange is

If the thought of summer is filling you with dread, the long evenings, the holidays, the laughter in the sunshine that belong to everyone else except you, the Summer Letter Exchange is for you.

Grieving is hard and it is lonely which is why I set up Letters After Loss, so that there is a safe place for widows to connect with each other.

One viral post on Facebook and the same comments and messages appeared again and again.

There were other people needing Letters After Loss too.

Men who have lost their spouse / partner.

Parents who have lost their child.

Children who have lost their parent.

People who have lost their friend.

So I created the Summer Letter Exchange

A one off letter exchange this summer for everyone.

How it works

Step 1

Sign up (£3.95)

This covers the postage and admin costs of sorting and sending the letters on.

Step 2

Check your inbox for all the information needed.

Once you sign up, I'll send you ideas and inspiration to help you write. Your letter doesn't need to be a masterpiece. It's about connection and comfort with someone who gets it.

Step 3

Write your letter

I'll give you some gentle prompts of things to write in your letter. Share a memory. Tell them about your person. Say what you need to say.

Your letter remains unopened, until it gets to the recipient. I place your sealed letter in an envelope and post it on.

Step 4

Pop your letter in a coloured envelope

This is how I match you with someone grieving the same kind of loss.

Don't worry if you don't have a coloured envelope, simply write the colour on your envelope.

Envelope Colour / Loss type

White / Partner loss

Pink / Child loss

Yellow / Parent loss

Green / Friendship loss

Step 5

Post your letter to the PO Box Address by 31st July 2026

You'll get the address as soon as you sign up.

Step 6

Receive a letter back

From someone else grieving the same kind of loss as you.

NB If there's an odd number of sign-ups in a category, one person will receive a letter from me personally instead.

Why I understand

how hard the summers really are.

3 weeks is all it took for my life to change.

I took my partner, Paul, into hospital because we thought he had a bad infection and simply needed a strong dose of antibiotics.

Week 1 We found out that no amount of antibiotics was going to cure cancer.

Week 2 His cancer was incurable

Week 3 He died

Here's what I found after he died...

❤️ Summer is a time to spend with your family, your loved ones.

❤️ Summer nights without them is lonely.

❤️ Summer's make you realise just how much you have lost.

I try to keep myself busy, but end up doing housework or menial tasks and then resent the fact that I am now doing all these tasks on my own.

This wasn't the future I had planned, and I'm sure it wasn't the future you had planned either!

It's lonely and it hurts.

Letters need to be received at the PO Box address by Friday 31st July 2026 so that they can arrive to their recipient at the beginning of August.

STILL NOT SURE?

Have A Question?

Question 1: Is this part of the membership?

No. The membership is a monthly letter writing exchange where you write to the same person each month. This is a one off letter writing exchange.

Question 2: Why can't I send my letter direct?

Everything is done safely with no personal details shared. Sadly there are people who try to take advantage of people when they are grieving. The PO Box Address ensures that your address is never shared with anyone.

Question 3: My writing is terrible, can I type it instead?

Of course. What matters is that something personal goes into the envelope, not that it has perfect handwriting

Question 4: I don't know what to write, will you help?

When you sign up I will email you with lots of ideas of what to include in your letter.

Question 5: Who will receive my letter - and whose letter will I receive?

Your letter will go to someone who has experienced the same loss as yourself, and you will receive a letter from someone who has experienced the same loss as you.

Question 6: I fit into two or more loss categories, which one should I choose?

This is up to you and will depend on who you would like to connect with. If you wish to write to more than one person you can buy two letter exchanges.
