HOW IT WORKS

In the quiet after loss, a letter can become a lifeline.

A reminder that you’re not alone.

HOW IT WORKS

Receiving a handwritten letter is like receiving a hug in the post. At Letters After Loss, we use the S.M.I.L.E. System to create a safe, supportive, and meaningful pen pal experience for women navigating grief.

S

SAFETY & SUPPORT

Your privacy and wellbeing come first. No personal details are ever shared directly. All letters are sent through Letters After Loss and then forwarded to your pen pal. We also have clear community guidelines to ensure kindness, respect, and compassion in every exchange.

M

MEANINGFUL MATCHING

Each woman is personally matched with a pen pal based on shared experiences, such as age, type of loss, and family situation. This helps create a natural connection and understanding from the very first letter.

I

INSPIRATION

Every month, you’ll receive The Comfort Post newsletter, filled with gentle prompts and ideas to inspire your letters. It’s a lovely way to spark conversation and keep your connection flowing.

L

LETTERS WRITTEN MONTHLY

You’ll write and receive a handwritten letter each month. If your pen pal is ever unable to write, don’t worry, you’ll still receive a comforting letter from our team so that no one ever feels forgotten.

E

EMPATHY AND CONNECTION

This isn’t about fixing grief, it’s about walking alongside someone who understands. Through shared stories and handwritten words, you’ll find comfort in knowing you’re not alone.
